Mentor programmes at AAU

There are many mentor programmes at AAU, where you as an external, internal or alumni have the opportunity to make yourself available for the benefit of both you as a mentor and for your mentee.

What is a mentor?

A mentor has experience in his or her field and shares know-how and competences through guidance, coaching, advice and feedback. A mentor is a resource person who can be used for close collaboration, and a discussion and sparring partner whose experience you can draw on.

What does it take to be a mentor?

There may be different requirements for you in the different mentoring programs.

Being a mentor means that you are ready to take on the role of supporting your mentee's learning process and that you can set aside time for mentoring meetings. In addition, you must be able to listen and ask questions as well as offer advice and share your own experiences when relevant.

What do you get out of being a mentor?

In addition to helping others, some of the things you can get out of being a mentor are, for example:

  • New input, thoughts and ideas from your mentee
  • Increased self-insight and reflection on one's career
  • Professional input that you can use in your professional life
  • Strong network relationships across industries
