Transitioning the world’s energy consumption away from fossil fuels and on to a mix of renewable sources is a pressing necessity for curbing the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. Such a huge undertaking requires a complete transition of the production, distribution, storage and consumption of energy and smarter use of both new and old technologies.

The Department of Planning is a powerhouse of innovation where researchers from a variety of sectors come together to develop the solutions needed for reaching the goal of 100 % renewable energy. Smart energy systems, wind power, photovoltaics, district heating and cooling, Power-to-X, smart city planning, electric cars, smart grids, sustainable economic models, and energy efficient buildings are just some of the areas where the Department of Planning possesses knowledge needed for transitioning to renewable energy systems.

Collaborating globally with industry, universities, and public institutions we are leveraging our expertise in the pursuit of a more sustainable society. With about 30 ongoing projects with international and national partners we investigate the supply chain effects of the ‘energy efficiency first’-principle in each EU member state with key partners from all parts of society.
