Social robots increase the well-being of people with dementia

Can make the dementia patients happier.

According to Professor of Welfare Technologies Birthe Dinesen, robots that are equipped with artificial intelligence and respond to touch, speech and eye contact have a positive effect on demented nursing home residents. The research takes place at the Department of Health Science and Technology and has studied the residents’ well-being, social interaction, facial expressions, body language and acceptance of the social robot as well as the physical and mental working environment of nursing staff. The conclusion is that the robots can help to create security for the staff and make the dementia patients happier.
